It’s the NHL’s third season, and it’s hard to argue with the Dub Kings.
The team has become one of the most beloved in hockey history and the franchise has won three Stanley Cups in the past eight seasons.
The Dubs, who have had a couple of players suspended for using banned substances, have even won a gold medal at the Olympics in 2020.
But it’s also been a year of upheaval at the NHL and the Dub’s time in the spotlight.
The NHL has been trying to figure out what to do with its Dubs for years.
The league has been looking for a new look for the team, and with the team’s recent resurgence, it has found its answer.
“I think the Dub was a great fit for the league.
We had a great deal of success over the years and had the best player in the league,” said NHL President Don Fehr.
While the Dub team has gone from being an NHL-record 10th place team to a playoff-bound team in two of the past three seasons, it hasn’t been without its struggles.
The organization has had to work hard to keep up with the evolving landscape of the NHL, and the team hasn’t always been the most popular of teams.
During its brief stint in the playoffs, the Dub struggled mightily, falling to the Edmonton Oilers in five games in the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Oilers won the next four games to advance to the conference finals and the club ended up being swept by the Chicago Blackhawks.
However, the team has bounced back in the next few seasons, winning the Stanley Cup in 2018 and being crowned the NHL champions the following year.
After the Dub failed to make the playoffs in 2018, the NHL announced it was looking to make a drastic change.
With the Dub in the midst of a lockout, Fehr said he was looking for an “end-of-the-season rebuild” to keep the team afloat.
He said he decided to start with a look at the current roster and try to find ways to get the team back in contention.
“We’ve had a lot of great players that have been with us for years, so we’ve had some good players that haven’t been here for quite some time,” Fehr told reporters after a news conference on Thursday.
“So we’ve got to look at who we have left, and I think we’re at a point where I think maybe we can get a little bit more consistent with the way we’re operating.”
The team is currently working to get back on track, but Fehr is not ready to talk about how exactly that will happen.
He did say the team is trying to focus on the younger players on the roster, though.
As the franchise is trying out a new uniform, Fehn said the team would like to bring back the Dub King jersey.
Fehr said the goal is to have it out in time for the start of the 2017-18 season, though the franchise isn’t set on a timeline.
He also said the Dub would be willing to return to its roots and become a home for the Los Angeles Kings if the league offered.
It was also announced Thursday that the NHL would be rebranding the NHL Network.
Fehr and the NHL are trying to find a new identity for the network that will reflect its role in the NHL in the future.
But, with the league trying to keep pace with the changing landscape of hockey, the idea of rebrandting the network seems a bit far-fetched.
With the league looking to find something to celebrate this season, Fehl said the league will be focusing on a “new look” for the NHL.
It’s unclear if the NHL will be able to get to the point of getting a new logo, but with the popularity of the Dub logo, it’s not a stretch to think the league would be looking to get creative and make something more contemporary.
